Benefits of the Written Trauma Narrative
Many people report that writing about their trauma and facing their fears and memories is the most helpful part of PTSD therapy. The trauma narrative, or account of the trauma, is commonly used in the following therapies:
- Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
- Prolonged Exposure (PE)
- Cognitive Processing Therapy
Other terms for this process include the written trauma account, imaginal exposure, trauma exposure, facing your trauma, or PTSD narrative.
Using the Worksheet
This worksheet reviews the process of the trauma narrative, and offers options for working through the event. It's recommended that this be combined with CBT processing of thoughts about the trauma.
